How to create a Hardstyle synth in Sylenth1

Welcome back for another sound design tutorial from Loop Galaxy!  Today we’ll learn how to create a bangin’ hardstyle synth in Sylenth1.

Take a listen to the sound we’ll create:

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

If you’ve ever heard the song Kickin Ass by Zatox and Tatanka, you’ll probably recognize this sound.

Getting Started…

Step 1 – Setup Oscillator A1.

Raise your Pitch an octave (+1).  Set your oscillator to a square wave and your Voices to 8.

Step 2 -Set up LFO1.

Leave LFO1 set to a sine wave. Set the destination to Pitch A with a value of 2.76.

Adjust your Rate to 23.78 and your Gain to 0.43.

Step 3 – Add some EQ.

Reduce some of the lows and brighten some of the highs.

Step 4 -Polish off with Reverb.

Reduce your Predelay and Size as shown below.  Leave your Dry/Wet mix set to 12 o’clock.  This gives our synth a plush feel, while making sure the effect isn’t too overwhelming.

Summary

You could try adding a Phaser or some distortion for more character.  This type of sound also works well when being arpeggiated.  Enjoy!
