How to create a Doctor P Wobble Synth in Massive

A big part of Doctor P’s production involves crazy wobble sounds.  Today we’ll take a look at how to create a wobble synth similar to that used in one of his tracks – Big Boss.  This type of sound really comes to life with some automation.

Take a listen to the sound we’ll create:

Let’s go ahead and get started…

Step 1 – Set up your Oscillators.

Pitch Osc 1 down six semitones.  Set your Wt-position to 12 o’clock.  Max out your Intensity and Amp.

Pitch Osc 2 up 10 semitones.  Set  your Wt-position somewhere between and 2 and 3 o’clock.  Max out your Intensity and Amp.

Step 2 – Adjust your Amp Envelope.

All you need to do here is raise your Decay Level slightly.

Step 3 – Set up your filter.

Choose a Scream filter and replicate the settings you see below.

Step 4 – Route an LFO to your Oscillator’s Pitch.

Drag and drop LFO 5 onto the pitch modifier of each oscillator.  Tune them slightly upward slightly (+20).

Step 5 – Adjust your LFO Rate.

If you want a simple wobble you can easily sync your LFO Rate to 1/8th or 1/16th.  However, we recommend you automate the Rate to really capture all that this sound has to offer.

Summary

You can also experiment with automating the LFO Amp to give your wobble more character.  Furthermore, If you want to get really crazy, render your wobble to an audio file, reverse it, and then resample it.  Doing so, should produce some interesting results.
